Svenskamerikanska Rådet
One of SCA's objectives has been to develop stronger direct connections with Sweden. As a first step, the SCA established an office in Sweden located at the Swedish American Center in Karlstad, Sweden. Now, we are proud to announce the development of an advisory board in Sweden, the Svenskamerikanska Rådet, to further the development of ties between North America and Sweden.
The Svenskamerikanska Rådet has as its goals to
- Support the Swedish Council of America;
- Spread knowledge about exchange opportunities with North America;
- Regularly arrange Swedish-American conferences in Sweden;
- Cultivate closer partnerships between Swedish-American organizations in Sweden and North America;
- Create contacts to build "sister" organizations based on interest categories across the ocean; and
- Inform about the Swedish Council of America's programs and network throughout Sweden, including conferences held in North America.
The first Board of the Svenskamerikanska Rådet includes Chair Eva Eriksson, Governor of Värmland, Erik Gustavson from Sverige Amerika Centret, Ulf Beijbom from Svenska Emigrantinstitutet, Tore Tellberg from Vasa Orden av Amerika, Barbro Stålheim from Sveriges Släktforskarförbund, Birger Svanström from Sveriges Hembygdsförbund and Mathias Nilsson from Sverige Amerika Centret as the secretary.
The organizations which are members include Sverige Amerika Centret, John Ericssons Sällskapet, Svenska Emigrantinstitutet, Sveriges Hembygdsförbund, Svenska verksamheten av Vasa Orden av Amerika, Sveriges Släktforskarförbund, Göteborgs-Emigranten, Migranternas Hus, Örebros Stadsarkiv, Skånes Genealogiska förbund, and Emigrantprojektet Vuxenskolan - Orust.
