Scandinavian American Foundation of Georgia
The Scandinavian American Foundation of Georgia, founded in 1983, seeks to promote cultural, educational, and amateur-athletic exchanges between the state of Georgia and the Scandinavian countries. During the ensuing years we have sponsored several such exchanges. Works of black printmakers of Georgia and watercolors of coastal Georgia have been shown in Scandinavia, and the Jomandi Theater Troupe has also visited there. Scandinavian lecturers and performers have come to Georgia, including the Royal Danish Opera Singers who will be returning to Georgia in 2010.
An unexpected result of this cooperation among the various local Scandinavian groups has been the discovery of common interests. In addition, friendships have developed between individuals as they work on projects like the Scandinavian Festival. The different Chambers of Commerce have also discovered that they share common interests.
As with most such groups, the Scandinavian American Foundation of Georgia depends on the volunteer efforts of interested persons, and our future is dependent on the support of individuals who share the goals and aspirations of the organization. At a time when donations to such organizations are challenged by the economic climate, it becomes even more crucial to support those causes that you believe in. This is important on both the local and the national level and we need to remember that the Swedish Council of America depends on the various supporting organizations and the donations of individuals such as you. There is no reason to choose—support both your local organization and the SCA.
