Swedish Cultural Society of Cleveland
The Swedish Cultural Society of Cleveland celebrated its 80th anniversary on October 20th, 2007.
The festivities took place at the Manor House of Case Western Reserve University where members enjoyed great camaraderie, good food and wine, a real spettekaka from Skåne and an excellent program.
Mats Widbom, Cultural Counselor at the Swedish Embassy in Washington D.C. told us about all the cultural events that have taken place at House of Sweden since its opening. A slideshow (prepared by Peter Carlsson) with many pictures from the 80 years made many laugh and remember. Trumpet solos by Erik Hasselquist, and the exquisite debut of SCS singers entertained the participants. Bo Carlsson enlightened us with the history of the Society.
The highlight of the evening came when Urban Lundberg from the Swedish Council of America presented the Council's Award of Merit to four well deserving members. The recipients are Glenda Carlsson, Iris Stjernholm, Lars Eriksson (pictured from top to bottom with Urban Lundberg) and Peggy Hallqvist (not pictured). They have all diligently worked to enhance the Swedish Heritage in Cleveland.
Members had a lot of fun celebrating the 80 years in a wonderful setting. The Swedish Cultural Society of Cleveland is a very healthy and vibrant 80-year-old, still going strong and looking ahead to its future.
