Swedish Heritage Society of Northern Colorado
Our club was started in 1977 by a group of Swedish descendants who wanted to promote, educate, and celebrate our Swedish heritage.
For the year 2008-09, we have 150 paid members. Our meetings are held every third Saturday, September through June. Our attendance is 65 - 80 members at each meeting, and as high as 120 members for our special events.
Our special events/celebrations are a smörgåsbord in September to begin our new year, a Santa Lucia presentation in December, and a Julotta service Christmas morning. In April one of our members caters an excellent Swedish dinner, and we hold a Midsommar celebration in June. We are planning to have a split pea soup supper in February hosted by the Board. This will be a new celebration that we hope will carry on for many years.
Our September smörgåsbord was held at Centennial Village in Greeley. We have a stuga there to represent our Swedish Heritage. The stuga had just been refurbished with new red paint and trimmed in white.
The Swedish Board consists of the next generation Swedes. We are working very hard to promote our heritage, to celebrate the great traditions, and to further the education of our Swedish ancestry.
