The
Swedish Council of America held its recent board meeting in Chicago,
Illinois, October 6-8, 2011. In addition to the meetings, board members
were hosted for a tour and dinner at the Swedish American Museum in
Andersonville. A highlight of the weekend was the Awards Presentations
during the banquet event held at the Club International at the Drake
Hotel.
Swedish Council of America's Awards Program
honors outstanding contributions to Swedish America and the world by
famous and not-so-famous individuals. The Award of Merit was established
at Swedish Council's 25th Anniversary in 1997. Since that time, the SCA
has recognized over one hundred individuals across North America and
Sweden.
Seven Awards of Merit were presented on Friday, October 7, 2011.
The Award of Merit is given to honor and thank these persons for their
work at the grassroots level in the cause of preserving and promoting
Swedish heritage.
Recipients
in Portland included Eva Giba (Swedish American Museum), Marjorie
Jothen (Swedish American Historical Society, WI), Eric Lund (Swedish
American Historical Society), LeRoy and Eloise Nelson (Swedish American
Historical Society), Donald Olson (North Park University Center for
Scandinavian Studies), Tina O'Malley (SWEA - Chicago), and Jane Wickham
(Swedish Heritage Society of Swedesburg, IA.)

The
Swedish Council of America held its 2011 annual meeting in Portland, Oregon,
April 7-10, 2011. A highlight of the weekend was the Awards Presentations.
Swedish Council of America's Awards Program honors outstanding contributions to

individuals from the Portland region were presented the SCA Award of Merit.
