Grants

The Swedish Council of America makes grants for projects that promote knowledge and understanding of Swedish-American culture, Swedish heritage, or the cultural ties between Sweden and the United States.

2012 applications will be accepted between January 1 and March 1, 2012. All applications must be received in the Minneapolis office no later than 5 p.m. Central Standard Time on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Notification of award decisions will be made to applicants by May 15, 2012, and fund distribution will be made by May 30, 2012.

Please read the Swedish Council of America's grants guidelines carefully before submitting your application. Priority in terms of support will be given to not-for-profit U.S. organizations that do substantial work on cultural matters and relations, specifically, museums, archives, and academic institutions. In addition, collaboration among organizations, for example, a theme related to the mission of Swedish Council of America that the organizations wish to pursue collaboratively, will be given strong support.

A grant proposal should clearly demonstrate how the project accomplishes at least one of the following:

  • Serves to pass on Swedish heritage to future generations
  • Enhances knowledge of the Swedish immigrants to the United States and their contributions to American life
  • Develops program of events that increase knowledge and awareness of Swedish-American culture
  • Promotes the many contemporary cultural ties between North America and Sweden
  • Celebrates and promotes awareness of the specific theme(s) announced for a given grant cycle. Themes for 2012 are August Strindberg, Raoul Wallenberg, John Ericson's Monitor, and Swedish Council of America 40 years.
