Nordic Lights Film Festival Minneapolis

NORDIC LIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL – TWIN CITIES BACK FOR ITS THIRD YEAR Seven days of film screenings will shine a light on modern Nordic culture

MINNEAPOLIS (January, 18 2012) ― We are pleased to present the third annual Nordic Lights Film Festival – Twin Cities, in collaboration with The Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul. Showing on Screen #3 at St. Anthony Main Theater in Minneapolis February 3 – 9, 2012, the festival will once again include a variety of feature-length and short films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and for the first time Greenland!

 “We're excited to be bringing our festival to The Film Society,” says Kari Lie, director of the festival. “This partnership will help us accommodate the continued growth we've seen year to year.”

 Among the films to be screened at this year’s festival are (*indicates preview DVD available):

  • Danish-Swedish drama, In a Better World, which won the 2011 Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards.
  •  Iceland’s Future of Hope*, a character driven documentary following individuals after the breakdown of Icelandic economy in 2008. A panel discussion will follow the screening.
  •   Also from Iceland, Summerland, an art-house comedy about an ordinary family running the unusual business of elf tourism and spiritual sessions.
  • Norway’s King of Devil’s Island*, based on true events in 1915 on Bastøy Island, about a correctional facility for juveniles, at which a group of headstrong inmates revolt against the inhuman conditions imposed by the facility’s leadership.
  •  Finland’s ever popular Moomins in their most recent adventure: Moomin and the Comet Chase*.
  •  From Finland, Princess*, a light-hearted narrative based on a true story, concerning the most famous patient of Kellokoski Psychiatric Hospital, Anna Lappalainen.
  • From Sweden, The Regretters*, a feature documentary about two men in their 60s who meet for the first time and discuss their respective sex changes, and subsequent reversals.
  • Greenland’s Inuk, a story of the shifts in indigenous society and culture due to global warming.
  • Nordic Shorts, always our most popular screening, a cinematic adventure through the Nordic comedy and drama.
